Jersey Spartan 10km

00599054_cropped.jpgTEENAGER Toby Edwards stormed to victory in the Jersey Spartan 10km road race on Sunday.

The Healthspan-sponsored event was held at Les Laveurs in cloudy and damp conditions, and though hampered by a strong north-east wind, Edwards (pictured) had a great race and was a convincing winner, completing the course in 36 min 33 sec. In second place was Jon Coote, who out-sprinted Bryce Alford to finish three seconds ahead, and 15 seconds ahead of fourth-placed Jo Gorrod, who was the first lady home.

Kevin Lovatt took an early lead in the Division B race, on the back of an excellent run at Val de la Mare. At the half-way mark he was passed by second lady Carol Knight, who was herself later eclipsed by former Alderney half-marathon champion Dave Woodsford.

Chris Matthews took the Division C title in 44 min 33 – his best time in the 10k for 18 years. Terri O’Donoghue ran a strong race to win Division D, although the ‘run of the day’ title was shared by Jamie Bara (37 min 45 sec) and Sylvia Thompson (41 min 46 sec), who both recorded big personal bests.
