A host of champions bid for £1,000 prize
Thursday 6th November 2008, 2:59PM GMT.
OVER 200 bar billiards players, most of them from the UK, will be taking part in the 2008 World championships at the Ommaroo Hotel this weekend – and nine of them are former title holders.
All will be striving to be the one to leave with the unique L’Etacq Woodcrafts Trophy, a cheque for £1,000,a cut-glass trophy. In all, an impressive prize list worth over £5,000 has again been put together for the three days play, largely thanks to the continued sponsorship of Jersey Tourism, the Ommaroo Hotel and local player Dave Jones.
Following tomorrow night’s doubles, the individual World championship gets under way on Saturday at 10 am, with the 206 entries only slightly down on last year – a great result given the current economic climate.
The three day tournament gets under way at 7.30 pm tomorrow evening with the Pairs Competition.
