Although just 18, Wigg is reckoned to be one of Britain’s finest trials riders and he will give last year’s winner, James Fry, stiff competition for the expert route title. Only nine enter the expert route, with Adam Le Cheminant, going for the first time, being joined by fellow Jerseyman Lee Rogan and Guernsey rider Tom Scott.

The intermediate route, introduced last year, has 19 entries, including last year’s winner Dean Lovelace. It is certain to be an interesting battle with Dave Clinkard and Shane Lovett also in the line-up alongside Jersey youngster Danniel Jeanne and Thomas Mollet, who makes his event debut. The clubman route has 70 riders and will be hotly contested, with last year’s winner moving up a class. Barry Roads, runner-up in 2007, bids to go one better this time.

The event, sponsored by BVM Moto and ESC, starts on Saturday at 10 am from Les Platons car park, with sections at Egypt and Bouley Bay. Competition then heads east with Sunday’s sections being held at Le Saie and Archirondel, starting from 11.03 am.
