Jersey bobsleigh duo aim for top six
Thursday 6th November 2008, 2:59PM GMT.
TWO-man bobsleigh crew Will Golder and Kevan Crowell believe they have what it takes to finish in the top six at next week’s British Championships in Italy.
Despite being one of the least experienced and lightest crews at the 2007/08 Championships at Igls last year, they finished as the top civilian crew and in 12th place overall.
Following a further eight months of sprint and weight training, under the guidance of Olympic bobsleigh competitor Colin Campbell, the pair are hoping to break into the top spots against teams already selected to represent Britain in Europa and World Cup events. Crowell said: ‘To finish 12th last year was very credible, but we are at least hoping to break the top ten this year, and we are aiming for a top six finish.’
The Lieutenant Governor, Lieutenant-General Andrew Ridgway, who is a staunch supporter of the Jersey team, said: ‘This is going to be a pretty testing year for the team – these British Championships are being held on a very demanding track, and this is really going to put them to the test. However they have been training very, very hard with Colin, and they are very confident that they will do well.’
