Le Sueur outlines way ahead on Waterfront
Thursday 6th November 2008, 2:55PM GMT.
HARCOURT Developments will get the contract to construct the £350 million Esplanade Quarter only if they ‘tick all the right boxes’ with the Treasury Minister and the States.
Senator Terry Le Sueur (pictured) made the statement in an open e-mail – copied to all States Members – following correspondence between members of the Council of Ministers and Senator Jim Perchard over the Waterfront development deal.
Senator Perchard, a former Waterfront Enterprise Board director, began the e-mail exchange by urging Senator Le Sueur to take control of the multi-million pound project, while Senator Ben Shenton pleaded with Environment Minister Freddie Cohen to delay deciding the planning application until a developer has been selected and approved by the Assembly.
Senator Le Sueur – who is the only publicly declared candidate to replace Chief Minister Frank Walker next month – sought to calm Members’ fears by saying that even if the planning application was approved, the developer would have ‘no right whatsoever to start developing the site’.
He said: ‘In order for the developer to start work, they need a signed contract between the parties, and I have already made it clear, but I reiterate, that such a contract will not be signed until I have satisfied myself with certain matters.

Just another typical example of the states putting the interest of the few, building contractors architects etc to make there fortune, whilst ignoring the wishes of the people who do not want a 10 year building site, and the traffic problems made even worse than they are now. It is disaster waiting to happen. And if that is not bad enough they want Le Sueur in charge of it, with his track record!!!!!! the mind boggles.

So as a taxpayer are we:
1 – Going to see the boxes that need to be ticked before they are presented to Harcourt?
2 – Going to do our ‘homework’ on where the money is coming from….fully!!….bearing in mind what is happening in Dublin at the moment, where no-one knows who owns what!
3 – Going to introduce Identity cards before we allow 500+ people through the door? Or are we going to invite drug crime, violent crime and so on?

Would it be possible that the contract not be signed until all members of the states are satisfied with the contract

Wake up Mr Le Sueur…there’s a global recession of unimaginable proportion staring you right in the face.
The ice cap is melting and our unsinkable finance industry is heading straight toward some wayward iceberg. The captain has lost his compass and our civil servant crew are having one hell of a no-expense-spared party. The guests have been given a free ride because their credit has run out – what with all those unfortunate law suits and all. This sure is going to be a Titanic voyage to beat them all.
