I FELT I must write in response to the recent letter from the couple from Belfast who found the Island’s bus service so good.

They did so because they visited Jersey in August. Had they been here in October, they would have found it a very different story!

I had the misfortune to use the Island’s so-called ‘very good’ bus service in early October when some family members visited from Dublin. I found it to be at best inconvenient, at worst unsafe.

There are no buses to the Island’s main beaches and attractions, for example St Brelade’s Bay and the Living Legend, which boasts that it remains open until October.

The driver misinformed us that the bus stops at the Greenhills Hotel when in fact it actually stops about a quarter of a mile down the hill.

Then the No 15 bus we took to St Brelade’s Bay on Sunday 12 October at 1.15 pm was so packed that I and my sister had to hold our daughters (one year and 18 months old respectively) on our laps because there was no buggy park while also trying to hold on to their buggies, which we had to fold up and put in the tiny suitcase-holders at the front of the bus.

Although the bus was more than full when it left Liberation Station, the driver insisted on allowing more passengers on until we got to Millbrook when the first passengers started to get off. On one of the hottest October days, this certainly wasn’t a pleasant journey.

Then we had to get off at Rose Farm and walk down a very steep hill to the beach, not to mention walking back up later!

Connex need to reassess the service they provide on busy routes in months like October so that people can enjoy Jersey’s lovely beaches and attractions.
