Jersey beef up for Hayward’s

00401583_cropped.jpgJERSEY RFC coach Ben Harvey goes into tomorrow’s London I game against bottom of the table Hayward’s Heath with A Plan.

It might not be very subtle, but it should certainly be effective. For he has ‘beefed up’ the pack, making it the largest he’s chosen so far this season. Ian Henderson and Jon Allo, both towering forwards with years of the experience, feature in the second row, with captain ‘V’ Vaioleti replacing Graham Bell at No 6.

‘For this week, yes, we’ve gone for size,’ said Harvey yesterday. ‘But that’s only because I want the side to win more of the ball, and then to use it. Charlie Clyde-Smith has played well for the 2nds and did well when he came on last week, so he deserves to start the game, while Sam moves out onto the wing.
‘He’s a born finisher, which is why I want to see him given more freedom.

‘I’ve also got Graham Bell on the bench. Because of exams he wasn’t able to train on Tuesday so he knows why he isn’t one of the starting XV. So he’s an angry young man – but I’d much rather prefer him to be angry, coming off the bench and, hopefully, making an impact to the game for our side rather than for theirs!’
