Constable warns Health Minister over La Collette
Saturday 8th November 2008, 9:57AM GMT.
THE Constable of St Helier has made an official complaint to the Health Minister about a pungent smell which has been coming from the compost site at La Collette.
Health officials are now investigating the issue after St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft, who received complaints about the foul smell from residents as far away as Trinity Hill, e-mailed Senator Ben Shenton to lodge his concerns.
He forwarded statements from residents concerned about the headaches they experienced as a result of the smell and added that he hoped the minister wasn’t ‘too busy closing down sources of minor noise nuisance in the countryside’ to deal with the matter.
Senator Shenton described the issue as an ‘ongoing problem’ that had been running for years and called for the States to work collectively towards finding a solution. ‘What we need to do is find a permanent solution for composting in Jersey and the disposal of green waste,’ he said. ‘What we haven’t done as a States Assembly is work together. We’ve had factions taking sides and no real commitment either by the executive or the non-executive to come up with a final solution.

Oh dear, Oh dear, Oh me. Two weeks have elapsed and Constable Simon Crowcroft is back for his photo shoot.
The composting plant for all its faults is a success! We turn garden waste into recycled ‘soil improver’.
