Hurrah – Mary Ann is back!

From Fayette Jackson.
TUESDAY 4 November was a red letter day for me when I learned that the name ‘Mary Ann’ was once again going to be used.

About 84 years ago (when I was only two) my father, then secretary of Ann Street Brewery, had the name registered in the Royal Court after being told by several publicans that in the summer months, visitors, when ordering the beer, would stand at the bar singing the old music hall song of that time, ‘Mary Ann’.

He thought it would be a good idea to use this name for the brewery’s beer. The board agreed and the rest is history. However, five or so years ago I felt sad at the name being dropped. Hurrah, Mary Ann for ever!
