He becomes the first player ever to retain the trophy, which was donated by Irene Corbin in 2002. The bronze of Harry Vardon is one of three, the other two were presented to the winner of the Open and US Open in 2000. Both Opens were won by Tiger Woods, who loaned one to St Andrew’s museum and has one in his Florida home.

Crenan’s impressive season included him becoming the first Jersey junior for many years with a handicap low enough to gain entry into the English and British Boys championships. He then made the cut to finish in the top 40 of the English Boys and in the British Boys got knocked out in the second round.

The Royal Jersey player also finished 12th in the Hampshire men’s county championships and tied second in the Under 18 Hampshire county championships, as well as winning the Basingstoke Junior Open.
