Dubras gives her all in early exit
Tuesday 11th November 2008, 2:59PM GMT.
JERSEY’S Francesca Dubras has been halted at her first attempt to qualify for the ladies’ ITF $10,000 tennis tournament at Les Ormes.
Dubras was knocked out of the competition yesterday by Austria’s Christina Mathis in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
The young Island player did not give her opposition an easy run – though Mathis took an early lead in both sets, Dubras quickly clawed back games, and in the final set the pair fell equal on four games each, before Mathis went on to clinch the match.
Dubras (pictured) played well on court, confidently returning Mathis’ at times powerful serve and holding up some good rallies, although she was let down often by her own serve, often boosting her opponent’s points tally.
Mathis now faces Italy’s Francesca Campigotto in the final round of the qualifying stages, in her bid to reach the main draw of the competition, which starts tomorrow.
