A marathon effort for Family Nursing and Home Care

A MARATHON runner has raised more than £4,600 for Family Nursing and Home Care.
Liz Taylor (48), of St Peter, battled through the strong winds and driving rain in the Jersey Marathon last month and completed the course in a respectable three hours and 51 minutes. The private client director of Royal Bank of Canada Wealth Management also ran with two RBC relay teams and her colleague Nick Walmsley.
Between them they expect to raise another £500, meaning that Family Nursing and Home Care will receive more than £5,000. Mrs Taylor said it was a fantastic achievement to finish – albeit 11 minutes over her expected time – and she could not believe how generous people were.
She said: ‘We chose Family Nursing services as the father of one of the girls in our team died this year. She said that Family Nursing was marvellous and her family could not have managed without them, so she asked us to support them and we did.’
It was Liz’s first marathon and she trained for five months, mainly with her dog. She said: ‘It was all right until about half way and then the wind was horrendous but I had the overriding thought of not stopping because I did not want to give the sponsors their money back.’
Despite the bad conditions she said she would like to take part in another marathon in the future. ‘But next time I don’t want to get blown away!’
Family Nursing and Home Care’s chairman Richard Pirouet paid tribute to the RBC runners. He said: ‘Everyone was delighted that people were prepared to run for our benefit, particularly in the awful weather.’
Family Nursing and Home Care has 7,000 members and one of Jersey’s largest non-governmental organisations. The charity delivers a wide range of community nursing and home care through a network of qualified nurses and support staff which include specialist nurses and therapists.
