JERSEY’S business community is being asked to provide mentors for Enterprise Week – an event which will give 900 pupils the chance to learn about business.

Students from every secondary school in Jersey will take part in Enterprise Week, which starts on Monday and highlights the business sector as a whole, from retail to finance. In small groups, pupils will take part in day-long exercises designed to help them understand businesses and to develop some of the skills needed.

The exercises are being run by Speakeasy4schools, a UK company that provides specialist curriculum-linked, scenario-based education suitable for all ages, ranging from primary schools to universities. Mentors are needed from Jersey’s businesses to give the pupils advice and guidance.

Economic Development deputy chief executive Andrew Sugden (pictured) said: ‘Mentors will not need to have expertise in a specific area – their role will be to get the pupils involved and thinking about the problems they are set. It is a great opportunity for the business community to get involved in something that will give students early exposure to the kinds of issues, questions and decisions faced every day by local businesses.
