Landsbanki: ‘We are working hard to help savers’
Friday 14th November 2008, 2:58PM GMT.
HARD work is being done to secure the return of Jersey residents’ savings held in the frozen accounts of Icelandic-owned Landsbanki, says Guernsey’s Chief Minister Lyndon Trott.
In the week that UK investors were told that they would get 100 per cent of their money back through a depositors’ protection scheme, Deputy Trott offered to meet the Landsbanki Guernsey Depositors Action Group to discuss their concerns.
And the group that represents Jersey depositors in Landsbanki expressed its gratitude to Deputy Trott for his efforts on behalf of Island investors in the stricken bank.
Guernsey’s Chief Minister spoke to the JEP in response to criticism that he has made very little comment about the plight of investors who fear they will lose life savings. He said that the nature of the work means that public comment was not always appropriate. However, he believes that the investors will get much more than the 30p in the pound that has so far been returned to them by the administrators.

Chief Minister Trott believes that we will get much more than 30p in the pound back.
Fair enough, but Icesave savers are getting 100 per cent back this month, and the Isle of Man has pledge £150m of public funds to make sure the deposit protection increase to £50,000 is implemented retrospectively.
I feel that Mr Trott could go much further if he really wanted to salvage Guernsey’s finance centre from the wreckage of the Landsbanki disaster.

Sadly you article did not mention that Mr ‘Trottski’ has offered to meet Landsbanki Guernsey depositors at a ‘UK Airport’ on a date in November.
Why not in Guernsey for goodness sake??
