The States-owned utility business has asked the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority for permission not to deliver on that day because of the small number of items it is predicting will be in the depot for delivery.

It is expected that there will be only about 500 items, compared to 100,000 on a normal day and 230,000 a day in the run-up to Christmas. However, it is a condition of Jersey Post’s operating licence for the States-owned utility to make at least one delivery each day to Island homes.

As a result the JCRA has started a public consultation on the request from Jersey Post to not deliver mail that day. And the regulator has indicated it is minded to give approval pending the outcome of the exercise.
