Lenny Harper and Graham Power have been made scapegoats
Saturday 15th November 2008, 9:57AM GMT.
From Johanna Pallot.
PERHAPS ‘there were no murders’, as the JEP headline of 12 November states, but during the investigation at Haut de la Garenne did Lenny Harper ever state that they were dealing with a homicide inquiry?
No — the headline seems to have been worded to play on people’s perception of what is believed to have taken place.
Mr Harper and his team were responding to hundreds of calls from alleged abuse victims and witnesses, some of whom claimed that they were abused in a deep, dark place. Hence the excavation work which it is now being claimed has wasted a lot of time and money.
You can’t point the finger at Mr Harper, who was doing his job trying to get to the truth and find answers for those who had made claims which necessitated the need for the dig at the site.
It is apparent (to me, anyway) that Mr Harper and chief officer Graham Power are being used as scapegoats because the States have no one else to blame for the extortionate cost of the inquiry and no-thing to show for it. It is shameful.
