My father was one of those brave men

From Grace Street.
WITH reference to the 90th anniversary of the end of hostilities in the 1914-1918 war, I was very interested to read in the Jersey Weekly Post, which means a great deal to me now that I cannot come to Jersey, that you have published a feature on the brave Jersey soldiers.

My dear father, Charles James Chapman (he died in 1965), was a rifleman with the King’s Royal Rifle Corps. He was born on 20 July 1899, and advanced his age by four years to enlist in 1914. He served for some time on the Western Front, was wounded and gassed, and in 1919 served in Russia where he was awarded the Military Medal for bravery.

He lived at Vine Cottage, Pier Road, St Helier, and was a loving father. I am 88 now and would have loved him to be mentioned.
