Don’t bring in the builders

THERE has been much media coverage of Esplanade Quarter. I am all for healthy competition, but why is it necessary to recruit construction workers from outside the Island?
What is wrong with asking local firms to bid for the work, keeping the money in the Island and creating jobs?

The 11th Great Garden Bird Watch took place over the weekend, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 February. JEP readers were asked to get on board to help monitor bird life in the Island.
I too would be interested in hearing the answer to this question, from the developers themselves. Perhaps they could allay mine and many others theories that they are purely going for the cheapest possible regardless of the quality of the outcome.
In fact who is even letting them build over here if they are refusing to use the local workforce. And that doesnt mean the ‘your just not what we’re looking for’ approach in interviews.
Come on, lets actually hear from them for once and, or will they just continue to brush it asside like our politicians would appear to be doing. Who is really benefitting from this, it certainly is’nt the local work force?
