Kennedy calls for change
Wednesday 19th November 2008, 3:00PM GMT.
JERSEY under-21 manager Dave Kennedy is calling for the Inter-Insular Football Committee to change the date for the annual Ambassadeur Bowl match against Guernsey.
The islands meet in November every year and Kennedy would like to see the fixture changed to early season or possibly at Easter when both islands’ university students will be at home.
Kennedy, whose fledglings were beaten 2-1 last night by a Coca-Cola Combination Select at Les Quennevais, said: ‘The timing of the fixture needs looking at – the first half last night highlighted the issues we have because it was the first chance to look at the new players in the squad because it’s the first time we’ve all been together.
‘We are going into Saturday’s match with one full training session behind us and last night’s game. We did have a game at St Ouen several weeks ago but we had six of the squad missing because Jersey Wanderers had a game and we had another couple missing because of injuries. We asked Guernsey to move the fixture but they were having none of it.’
