Condor ferry fares: You could sail with HD for a third of the price

From Kim Hanson.
I WAS interested in your article (JEP, 30 October) titled ‘Down come petrol and ferry fares’.

Ian Milner, Condor’s general manager, says that Condor have kept the competitive fare levels they had when rivals HD Ferries announced that they were stopping services in September.

Why, therefore, when we had booked a return trip to France for December 2008 for two adults, one child and a baby, plus a vehicle with HD for £108 return, upon rebooking with Condor for the same dates, same amount of people and same vehicle, did we have to pay an additional £255, totalling £363? Not bad for an hour on the ferry.

We could have booked three trips with HD for the price of one trip with Condor and still had change in our pockets. Hardly competitive, Mr Milner.
