New owner brings fresh growth at Floralies
Thursday 20th November 2008, 2:58PM GMT.
FLORALIES at Five Oaks is changing with the seasons.
From the end of next month, current owner Carmen Sellick will be moving on to semi-retirement and ventures new after ten ‘busy and enjoyable’ years. The new owner will be Marc Simon, who previously ran the retail side of the business at Sunset Nurseries, in St Ouen.
Work is already under way to extend the florist shop into the adjacent corner premises and Mr Simon plans to expand the business and offer a range of gifts. The shop itself has been a haven of sweet-smelling blooms for at least 20 years and was previously run by Jean Roche.
Mrs Sellick, who moved to Jersey 19 years ago from the Philippines, trained as a florist at Four Seasons in the Central Market. Like Mrs Sellick, Mr Simon was involved in the family business from an early age. He attended St Peter’s and Les Quennevais Schools and then trained in horticulture at Trinity. He is married to Karen and they have a 16-week-old son, Caleb.
