Residents ‘no’ to Ouaisné plan
Thursday 20th November 2008, 2:57PM GMT.
NEARLY 100 people have signed a petition against a development ‘more than four times as big’ as the existing one opposite the pub at Ouaisné.
Peter Weaver has applied to demolish La Cotte, opposite the Smugglers Inn pub in St Brelade, to build a two-storey four-bedroom house. Ninety people have signed a petition against what they call ‘a gross overdevelopment’ of the land and the National Trust for Jersey has written to the Planning department objecting to the plans.
Smugglers Inn leaseholder Ken Jenkins (32), of Havre des Pas, said: ‘Last year a planning application was put in to demolish the bungalow to develop a two-storey building in the green zone. Reducing the height by two feet does not address the concerns that people have written in about. The size of dwelling for the size of plot is a gross overdevelopment.’
Environment Minister Freddie Cohen will decide on the application at 9.40 am tomorrow.
