Rights for ‘children’ aged 18
Thursday 20th November 2008, 2:57PM GMT.
From Donald McGregor.
THE States have told 16-year-olds that they can legally:
(1) Be married and create children; (2) be lesbian or homosexual; and (3) vote.
As yet, there has been no mention of a need to be responsible for all that they do or say. Now we are told by learned, experienced visitors that we must put in place human rights for ‘children’ up to the age of 18.
Does this mean we send ‘children’ to war (18-year-olds do join the services and die)? Just imagine head teachers of secondary schools greeting their 11-to-18 students in morning assembly with the words ‘Good morning, children!’
Why not just insist on discipline at home, school, and out and about, and the need to accept responsibility for all our actions whether we are children, teenagers or indeed adults? Only then should we be awarded our rights.
