World tour of Buddhist relics comes to Jersey
Friday 21st November 2008, 3:00PM GMT.
A PRECIOUS collection of sacred Buddhist relics will go on public display in Jersey this weekend.
An exhibition of the pearl-like crystals can be seen at the St James Centre in St James Street tomorrow and on Sunday. A Buddhist monk will also be present to give blessings to visitors during the exhibition.
The collection of holy relics is currently touring the world and will be on display from 10 am until 7 pm on both days. There is no entrance charge but donations will be welcomed. There will be an opening ceremony at 5 pm today.
Local organiser Joanne Chapman, of Pure Being Therapies, said that it would be a rare opportunity to view the relics, which were found among the cremation ashes of Buddhist masters. ‘They resemble beautiful, pearl-like crystals,’ she said. ‘Buddhists believe that relics embody the master’s spiritual qualities of compassion and wisdom and are deliberately produced by the master on his death.’
