Young Guns take on Artillery in a fixture for Heroes
Friday 21st November 2008, 2:59PM GMT.
YOUTH has been given its head tomorrow with Jersey RFC coach Ben Harvey’s squad against the Royal Artillery for the Wilkes Cup match containing ten players either in their teens or early 20s.
However, he insists that although he has made wholesale changes, he is confident in his selection for the match that will raise funds to help injured service personnel through Holidays for Heroes Jersey.
‘All of the players have had first team experience or are knocking on the 1st XV door,’ he said, before naming the teenagers in the squad: ‘Ed Dawson, Joe Ellyatt, Mark Livesey, David Felton, Charlie Clyde-Smith, Michael Le Bourgeois and Chris Pople. Only a few years older are Ross Kenwright, Ryan Morgan and Peter O’Connor. And all, bar Dawson, have come through the Academy ranks.
‘But we’ve also brought in some of our more experienced players, for example Marcus Nobes, who’s been banging on the door of the first team all season and deserves his chance. I also want to see how Mark Le Mottée plays at scrum half; we’ve been working on his passing and he’s played some excellent rugby for the seconds.’
