Jersey double in Scottish Open

JERSEY badminton stars Elizabeth Cann and Mariana Agathangelou have taken singles and doubles titles at this year’s Bank of Scotland International Championships in Glasgow.
Cann, who was top seed in the women’s singles, defeated two-time winner Ella Diehl in the semi-finals, and came back from a game down in the final to beat the unseeded Kati Tolmoff of Estonia 16-21, 21-10, 21-12.
The three-time English national champion and Middlesex player said: ‘That made up for last year’s disappointment. That was the best I’ve played over a whole tournament. It sets me up nicely for my national title defence.’
In the women’s doubles, Agathangelou and her Scottish partner Jillie Cooper defeated second seeds Emelie Lenartsson and Emma Wengberg of Sweden 21-17, 21-13. That win was also consolation for Agathangelou, who was defeated with former partner Gabby White in last year’s women’s doubles final.
