Men’s hockey: National Trophy
Tuesday 25th November 2008, 2:59PM GMT.
JERSEY men’s hockey XI have proved a real force in this year’s National Trophy tournament with a 6-1 drubbing of Horsham to send them straight into the last 16.
For the second year running, the team will be try to secure a quarter-final place when they take on Bexleyheath & Belvedere at home on 15 February.
Coach Shelagh Herbert said: ‘This was a really encouraging performance by the Investec squad. We played some of our best hockey, bossed the game and really didn’t allow Horsham to find any rhythm or confidence. To get into the last 16 of this competition for the second year running is very pleasing and if we continue to play as we have been doing so far we have every reason to believe that we can go even further and win more games.
‘It’s important that as an Island squad we access good level hockey in both halves of the season and by continuing this run we have given ourselves that opportunity once again and a further focus for all our training.’
