ISLANDERS can now hear their new anthem online for the first time.
Recordings of Anthem for Jersey – the first three notes of which are based on the ‘moo’ of a Jersey cow – have been made available on the internet for use at Island events.
Island Home, which was the winning entry by composer Gerard Le Feuvre, was recorded at the Opera House as part of the 60th anniversary Liberation celebrations. Mr Le Feuvre, who studied at the Royal Academy of Music, Yale University in America and the Sibelius Academy in Finland, wants Islanders to understand how he created the piece.
‘I hope that when people come to read about and listen to the anthem, they will realise quite how ‘‘Jersey’’ a composition it is,’ he said. ‘The first three notes are based on the sound of a Jersey cow, and there are references to some of our seabirds in the melody. I put my heart and soul into it.’

The 11th Great Garden Bird Watch took place over the weekend, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 February. JEP readers were asked to get on board to help monitor bird life in the Island.
Oh dear. Sounds rather a poorly mixed classical dance track, there’s the Hallelua chorus in there, and what sounds like a scratching version of SanSons Second Organ concerto. Sorry, much as I fly the flag at all events I attend, I won’t be playing the anthem.

who in their right mind allowed such rubbish lyrics! Music is good but too similar to other classical pieces. Also, why does Jersey feel they have to have their own anthem? What is wrong with the National anthem when after all, we Jersey people are British subjects.

Hats off to Mr Le Feuvre, undertaking a task like this was always going to be one to open him to ridicule. Well done sir. I’m not a true bean but the locals should be proud to have something to call their own. Jersey’s no longer 100% British so this is much more representative of the current population. In fairness though it would be hard not to beat God Save the Queen!
