A WOMAN who is researching her family tree has been in touch to see if we can help trace the descendants of Philip McAdorey.

Ann Kerr says that Mr McAdorey, her grandfather’s first cousin, was born in Belfast, in 1896, but later in life settled in Jersey, which was where his mother was born.

‘My grandfather Joseph McAdorey died at the Somme in 1916 when my late mother was six years old,’ she said. ‘My mother didn’t know anything about her father’s family apart from the fact that he had a sister whose husband was in the army and they were stationed in England and then India, eventually settling in York, England and his mother followed her daughter to York.’

‘I have discovered that Philip’s parents William and Annie McAdorey (née Crispin) and siblings, Annie, Lilly, William, Peter, Fred and Ruth lived in Belfast, N I very near to where my grandfather lived.’

Ann was also born and grew up in this area, and for a time, Philip McAdorey and his family lived there as well. Ann now lives in Monkstown, Newtownabbey, about eight miles from Belfast. Philip McAdorey’s younger sister Ruth also lived in Monkstown before her death.

‘My mum remembered Philip’s younger brother and sister coming to visit my granny and I was able to get in touch with his sister’s family and they gave me the only information they had, which was that Philip had joined the army and had settled in Jersey.

‘Incidentally I have discovered that his mother was born in Jersey but the family were unaware of this.’
