St Peter firm gets a taste for Barbados

A JERSEY management support business is proving its worth in the Caribbean.
Hewitt Enterprises Ltd, based in St Peter, has been appointed by food services suppliers Brakes Group to develop its distribution network in Barbados and the surrounding islands.
Managing director Derek Hewitt, who set up his business in 1992, provides sales support to Brakes in the Channel Islands and also runs the accounts for a number of other food and bakery wholesalers, including Délifrance and BelleFrance, but until this year he never expected his services to be required in the Caribbean.
Mr Hewitt started his career as a caterer and before setting up in business was group catering manager for Modern Hotels. He explained that this latest venture had come about through a Barbados business which is run by a Jersey resident, Edwin Thirlwell.
