00598096_2_cropped.jpgJERSEY RUGBY CLUB face yet another mammoth ask tomorrow when they travel to take on Bishop’s Stortford, who are unbeaten on their home ground this season.

‘It’s another tough ask,’ agreed coach Ben Harvey (pictured). ‘Not only haven’t they lost at home, they’re the only side to have beaten second-placed Barnes.

‘They’re currently fifth in the table (on points difference) behind Jersey and they’ve got proven pedigree. They’ve been in this division for a number of years and have also been in the division above. I believe we can win just as I believe we can only get better.

‘It’s a testing time for us, either side of Christmas, but if anything I want my players to use it as a time to get fitter. The season’s not even half way through and some of the players are still getting used to the players around them.’

It’ll be interesting to see how long our “Jersey” team fare once the credit crunch bites their extensive sponsorship, taking away their ability to pay their way up the leagues. I wonder if our kept players will want to stay and play for Jersey once their wages are reduced, or God forbid removed completely. I doubt it. I can see a subsequent tumbling down the leagues occuring if that happens, but I and countless other people I have spoken to will be much more inclined to go and watch if it’s a genuine Jersey team and not just a semi-professional team based in Jersey.
