Haut de la Garenne trustees do much more than hand over money

From Ian Robinson.
IN order that I do not incur the wrath of my fellow trustees, I would be most grateful if you could publish more details about the work of the trustees of the Haut de la Garenne Trust.

In comments attributed to me in the JEP on 14 November, readers may have been left with the impression that the only thing the trustees do annually is to pass on a cheque from the profits of Haut de la Garenne to the States of Jersey.

Not so — we oversee the local management of Haut de la Garenne by the YHA by providing local expertise and assistance. We meet monthly when the accounts are scrutinised and published, and public relations and media matters are discussed and agreed, together with all other relevant matters.

This is a very successful relationship that has resulted in increased visitor numbers (and profits) annually, due largely to the hard work of the trustees and the YHA.

The trustees are:
Mike Powell (solicitor), chairman; Deputy Anne Pryke, deputy chairman; Sue de Gruchy, secretary; Ken Brierley (former a banker); Ken Wise (businessman); David Siddall (former trust manager); and myself.
45 Don Farm,
St Brelade.
