Russell hits high notes as Portuguese reach final notes
Thursday 4th December 2008, 2:59PM GMT.
UNBEATEN Coca-Cola Championship League side Portuguese Club cruised into the Willis Memorial Trophy final last night, with a 4-0 victory over Magpies at Les Quennevais.
All the goals, orchestrated by Carlos Carolo, were scored in the final 25 minutes with Richard Russell bagging his second hat-trick of the season, to take his season’s tally to 17 goals, with Manny Fernandes netting the last goal – all orchestrated by Carlos Carolo.
Portuguese official Sergio Carolo said: ‘I think the final result was a little flattering but we are playing well as a team and scoring lots of goals. ‘Richard Russell is working hard and he is being rewarded in front of goal regularly. Carlos Carolo was involved in the build-up to all our goals, yes it was a good result and we now have the final to look forward to against First Tower in January.’
Portuguese Club’s third and fourth, netted by Russell and Fernandes respectively, were similar first-time efforts from outside of the penalty area.’
