Colts tame the Tigers

00605131_2_cropped.jpgJERSEY RFC Colts pulled off a tremendous 32-15 victory over Twickenham Tigers at St Peter yesterday to advance in the National U19 Plate.

But the five-try victory was not as straightforward as the score might suggest, with the team bearing English rugby’s most famous name putting in a tremendous second-half performance that tested Jersey’s resolve.

Indeed, Jersey’s deserved 25-3 first-half lead was at one point in genuine danger, before a late surge secured a place in Round 3 C, away to either Redingensians or Sidcup whose tie was frozen off yesterday.

Tries from Tom Ellis (two), Ed Dawson, Joe Ellyatt and Gus Warner, plus seven points from the boot of scrum-half Danny McAviney, ensured the memory of a painful cup exit away to Petersfield were expunged. This time Jersey, benefiting from increased intensity in training, were the fastest out of the blocks by some distance, with the visitors caught cold by some determined play.
