00605206_cropped.jpgTHE founder of a controversial Facebook site that criticised plans to bring in 500 construction workers from outside Jersey has been found dead.

Martyn Yann Roberts (28) was found dead in his home on Sunday 24 hours after being involved in an incident in Gloucester Street. A major police investigation has been launched.

Mr Roberts had previously asked to remain anonymous in relation to his involvement with the Facebook site because he ‘feared for his personal safety’. The Save Jersey Builders site questioned whether developers needed to bring in 500 workers to develop the Esplanade Quarter.

Investigating officers this morning said that they believed that Mr Roberts was involved in an altercation with up to 11 other men near the Spectrum Apartments at about 11 pm on Friday night. He was found dead in his Beach Road flat in the early hours of Sunday. Another 28-year-old man has been arrested and is in police custody. He has not been charged with any offence.

• The police are appealing for anyone who saw Mr Roberts in the 48 hours before he died to contact them urgently. Information can be given by calling the CID on 612200 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
