‘Over the last few seasons I’ve been told that 14 points is enough to survive in this division,’ said former chairman Chris Scott midway through a game which sees Jersey return to the promotion race in third spot, ‘although I don’t think that we’ve played one team that we weren’t good enough to beat.’

Following six wins, three defeats and two draws, Jersey’s win in front of a crowd of 700 was not one for the purists. At times it was not pretty rugby, but coach Ben Harvey was pleased by his squad’s commitment.

‘I felt that we deserved it this week,’ he said, ‘even though we gave away too many silly points and penalties. But compared to last week I can’t fault the players’ work ethos and the guys up front probably won the game for us.’
