Sarnian champions Coreix Unwantables were sunk in the first 35 minutes with Rathbones OVs Convicts, looking the most at home at Foote’s Lane, rattling in three goals without reply. And although there was no further scoring a 3-0 away victory was a handsome return.

‘We didn’t show up for the first half,’ admitted Unwantables captain Adie Peacegood. ‘You’d think we were the away team. First half they bossed the game. We had a couple of very good chances and if they had gone in, we’d have gone 2-0 up and it would have been a different game. I don¹t know if it was nerves and the occasion got to them, but you’d think they were old and wise enough to get over the nerves.’

Convicts took the lead after ten minutes – a deflection off Gordon Hunt defying goalkeeper Jason Robilliard. A a soft goal, but vital. And two more in quick succession from captain Mark Dicker and Pete – both top-of-the-D strikes – but the Jersey side firmly in the driving seat.
