Great Christmas Pudding Race
Thursday 11th December 2008, 2:57PM GMT.
A TIED final led to a run-off in yesterday’s Great Christmas Pudding Race in Weighbridge Square.
A total of 15 teams competed in the relay race, which saw people in Christmas-themed fancy dress popping balloons, decorating Christmas puddings and pulling crackers — all to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The Royal Yacht’s Café Zephyr team, dressed as Father Christmases, were the eventual winners, narrowly beating RBS International, whose costumes included the Cat in the Hat and Scooby Doo.
Each team of six paid £100 to enter the race, and entrants were asked to get sponsorship as well. Other teams who entered included Abbey International, who made it to the final and were dressed as snowmen, Channel Television, whose costumes of Christmas gifts slowed them down a bit, and trust company Volaw, who came as Christmas crackers.
