Hash on the trail of trash
Thursday 11th December 2008, 3:00PM GMT.
THE Jersey Crapaud Hash House Harriers, one of the Island’s two cross-country running clubs combining their exertions with post-exercise beer and refreshments, are sometimes accused of failing to take their sport seriously.
Indeed, the club’s members are occasionally referred to as ‘drinkers with a running problem’. But the Crapauds’ relaxed view of athletic endeavour does not mean that their activities are limited to a gentle trot over hill and dale followed by lots of drinking, eating and, occasionally, singing. Anything but.
As the picture (below) shows, they spent time on a recent run picking up every scrap of litter that they spotted on their route, which took them into some of the less-travelled parts of St Brelade.
In spite of gale force winds and driving rain, the Sunday morning ‘trash hash’ was judged a great success, as was the après run session at the Landmark Inn.
