Island Methodists together

0588155_cropped.jpgAFTER digging through a few boxes and albums, Eileen Le Sueur has found a few gems to share with Islanders.

The first is a 1933 gathering of Methodists at the church then known as Grove Place. The church then became Wesley Grove and is now called St Helier Methodist Centre.

Eileen was among a group of seven church-going Methodists who made the journey from St Ouen for the gathering. She said that the photographer insisted that everyone remove their glasses, which explains why she appears (on the left of the lectern) without her familiar frames.

She has asked if anyone else who might have been there that day knows who the minister is. He is seated in the centre beneath the organ. The other gathering she has found a picture of is from 1946. It shows all those who took part in the first supper-dance of the St Saviour Social Club after the Occupation. It was held on 16 May at the Merton Hotel.
