Swim star could miss out in Aland

COMMONWEALTH Youth Games gold medallist Dan Halksworth may be forced to miss next year’s Island Games – because he has fallen foul of qualifying rules set by the Jersey Amateur Swimming Association.
Halksworth, pictured, won three golds, two silvers and a bronze medal in swimming and triathlon at last year’s Games in Rhodes, and last weekend achieved the qualifying times for next year’s Games in 200m IM and 100m breaststroke. However, Halksworth, who heads to New Zealand in January for three months triathlon training, has not yet competed in enough galas to be considered for the 2009 team.
Under JASA rules, all swimmers who hope to qualify for the Games team must compete in two licensed galas between October and December, and another two between January and April.
