Let’s get both sides of the rocket story

From G Evans.
IT may be that I have misread the article in your paper on Tuesday 11 December about Terry McDonald and his ill-fated rockets but, as I read it, he said that he now had to pay to ship the rockets back to the United Kingdom and then also probably pay additional money to have them destroyed.

However, he then went on to say that one option which is open to him is to accept the States offer of letting the bomb disposal officer destroy them. That, to me, represents a no-cost solution to his problem. Why ship them to the UK for disposal when they can be destroyed locally with no shipping or disposal charges to be met?

One further point is his contention that the Environment department stopped him from going ahead with his planned world record attempt. From my reading of your worthy journal at that time I seem to recall that the Environment department did not say that it couldn’t go ahead, but what they did say was, ‘If he went ahead and there was pollution he might face prosecution’. That is far less specific than the comments he is attributing to them. Maybe it is time the relevant government departments made clear their position in this matter and we – the public – can know both sides of the story.
