Give younger taxi drivers a chance
Friday 19th December 2008, 2:56PM GMT.
From M Renouf.
THE taxi service is not going to improve until the Driver and Vehicle Standards department clear up the mess they have created.
The old boy network, ie taxi drivers in their seventies, should be made to hand over their plates to younger people who can and will do the work needed.
In the UK and the EU, people over 72 are not considered safe to drive public service vehicles and I and many more agree.
The majority have their own home and pension. What more do they want? To me it is just greed and determination to stop the younger people from earning an honest living.

I have to agree that the standard of driving by some of these drivers scares me, god knows how the tourists and business visitors feel after a trip with them.
