Reel time runs out for the Forum Cinema

The three full-time staff and five part-timers have all been told that the Forum, based in the old Odeon building in Bath Street, will close on 15 January. Proprietor Deputy Kevin Lewis, pictured, says that his lease with the building’s owners, LMF Jersey Investments Ltd, has come up for renewal and a mutual decision has been made not to re-sign it.

The news means that Jersey is back down to one cinema, Cineworld at the Waterfront. The Forum opened as a non-profit-making cinema almost four years ago after the closure of the Odeon and the Ciné de France.
‘We have had many thousands of happy customers through the doors,’ said Deputy Lewis, who was named Assistant Transport Minister this week.

‘The agreement was always that it would be temporary, and the staff were aware that it was not a permanent thing.’

Ah its great to see the States arranging things so that large UK companies can take all the profits out of the Island, and screw the Jersey man yet again.

Sorry to see the Cinema go again. I hope an alternative site can be found for a new small cinema. Cineworld will be happy and I’m sure prices will rise to reflect the monopoly they now have.
