1,500 families helped by Christmas Appeal
Tuesday 23rd December 2008, 2:59PM GMT.
NEARLY 1,500 households have received a Christmas gift from the Joint Charities Christmas Appeal.
Over £100,000 of food and fuel vouchers and grocery hampers have been distributed to the Island’s most needy families. Secretary of the appeal, Paul Pearce, said that they were delighted with the way things had gone.
‘It is starting to come to an end now but we have had lots of late applications in the last few weeks,’ he said. ‘There are people who are in dire need of help whose circumstances have maybe only changed recently. We have had quite a few of them.’
To be eligible for help from the appeal, Islanders need a referral letter from either a charity organisation, their Constable or a social welfare body.
