Airport work back on track

00608014_cropped.jpgNIGHT work at the Airport has stopped for Christmas but contractors will return in the New Year.

Despite bad weather at the start of December that caused some delays, the work schedule is back on track. The contractors have finished grooving the runway surface to allow water to run off, having already completed resurfacing work.

When work begins again in January, the specialists will start installing new lighting systems, which will also include control mechanisms still under development. Jersey Airport operations director Sandy Sawyer said that although the resurfacing work was over, there was still a fair bit to do in terms of the lighting systems.

‘However, what is important is that the largest part of the project is now behind us without any major safety issues,’ she said. And the other good news for nearby residents is that the work schedule will reduce to weeknights only with no Saturday night activity in the New Year.
