I HAVE been asked by the owners, captain, crew and trainees of the Swedish sail training ship Alva, which so nearly sunk and was so dramatically saved off the Minquiers on the weekend of 4–5 October in that terrible storm, to give heartfelt thanks and wish all those brave souls who took part in her rescue and indeed all in the Channel Islands a very happy Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
