0608713_2_cropped.jpgJERSEY must not take its independence for granted, especially in times of economic crisis, says the Bailiff.

In his last Christmas message to JEP readers before he retires next year, Sir Philip Bailhache says that he has seen Jersey become a little nation, autonomously capable of great things.

And he reminds readers how much the Island has achieved over the last 800 years with its own government and legal system.

‘During my term of office one change has been that we have begun to see ourselves much more as a small nation which is independently capable of great things,’ he said. ‘With globalisation, and our economic success, Jersey is no longer a mere dot on the map. Our constitutional privilege of self-government has made all this possible.

Sir Philip will be remembered as a great statesman and an honest man.The police failed us in the debacle over Haut de la Garenne and much more will emerge, no doubt, as to the disgraceful use of political leverage by a tiny minority, whom sought to undermine due judicial procedure in the abuse enquiry for their own selfish ends.

No, the police didn’t fail in the HDLG investigation – start having a look around, open your eyes. The whole slating of Lenny Harper is done by the Jersey Establishement – he’s being used as a scapegoat for their cover-up.

Theres your ‘disgraceful use of political leverage’.
