The figure is similar to previous Decembers, even though States police this year decided against launching a high-profile media campaign or dedicated roadside checks.

A total of 13 motorists were charged with drink-driving in the whole of last December, 12 were caught in December 2006 and 15 were charged in the same month in 2005. Five of the motorists charged this year were arrested after being involved in a road crash.

Last month States police revealed that they were not running their festive drink-drive campaign because they wanted to tackle the problem all year round, rather than just at the predicted problem times of Christmas and summer.

Perhaps if the police had decided to launch a campaign, not only would it be less than ten caught but also those not caught wouldnt have.

People who drink drive are going to drink drive regardless, the tone of ‘trudies’ comment makes it sound as if it is the polices fault that people were drink driving because the police didn’t launch a drink drive campaign!
