Banahan helps lift Bath to top spot
Monday 29th December 2008, 2:59PM GMT.
JERSEY’S Matt Banahan scored the opening try in Bath RFC’s 25-14 win against Northampton Saints at the Recreation Ground on Saturday – a victory that lifted them to the top of the Guinness Premiership.
With many spectators still making their way to their seats Banahan took advantage of a slack Northampton defence to race clear on the left to collect a kick and touch down.
Butch James converted to make it 7-0 to the home side and Michael Claarsens’ two further tries added to the points tally as Bath went top of the table, with 34 points from ten games played, ahead of London Irish, who lost to Saracens 16-13, second with 33.
Banahan has now scored in Bath’s last two league games.
